The Man Who Saved the Tax Exemption

The individual most responsible for saving the sales tax exemption in Maryland was honored at a special fundraising reception on the Bourse floor on Friday.

Delegate Melvin L. Stukes (D-Baltimore City), made brief remarks and greeted well-wishers at the Expo.

House Bill 206, which would have repealed the special sales tax exemption, died in Committee, thanks in part to Del. Stukes’ efforts to educate his fellow Delegates to the many public policy considerations that weighed heavily against its passage.

A number of dealers made contributions to Del. Stukes’ campaign committee. If you wish to make a contribution (up to the legal limit of $4,000), make your check payable to “People for Melvin L. Stukes,” and give it to Whitman Expo General Manager David Crenshaw.
