Since entering the field in 2000, he has handled many of the greatest U.S. and world rarities and has consulted for banks, museums, grading services, and the Smithsonian Institution. A regular contributor to the Red Book and Coin World, McCarthy has also taught advanced courses for the American Numismatic Association and is widely sought as a lecturer and commentator. Known for his passion and keen eye for detail, he is regarded as one of today’s leading numismatic professionals.
