In conjunction with the America the Beautiful? quarter dollar circulating coins, the Mint also produces a companion series of bullion pieces with matching designs. Five different sites of “natural or historic significance” are being honored each year from 2010 through 2021.
The bullion coins contain five ounces of pure silver and have designs nearly identical to those of the America the Beautiful? quarters, with the exceptions of their size (3 inches in diameter) and their edge (marked .999 FINE SILVER 5.0 OUNCE, instead of being reeded like the standard quarters). Although all are coined at the Philadelphia Mint, the bullion pieces do not have a mintmark. These coins are not intended for circulation and are sold by the Mint to authorized distributors. In December 2010 the Mint announced it would produce Uncirculated and Proof versions for collectors.
