Q. David Bowers became a professional numismatist as a teenager in 1953, later earning a B.A. in finance from the Pennsylvania State University (1960), which in 1976 bestowed its Distinguished Alumnus Award on him. He served as president of the Professional Numismatists Guild (PNG) from 1977 to 1979 and president of the ANA from 1983 to 1985. He is a recipient of the Founder’s Award and Farran Zerbe Award, the highest honors of the PNG and the ANA. He is the author of over 50 books and has received more honors from the Numismatic Literary Guild than has any other person. His column, “The Joys of Collecting,” has been a feature of Coin World for more than 40 years and is the longest-running column by any author in the history of numismatics.
